International study centres (ISCs) cater to the needs of international pupils. Most ISCs are attached to a boarding school and provide a stepping-stone into the British school system for children coming to the UK for the first time. Pupils study English intensively and other academic subjects in very small classes. Most pupils make a successful transfer to a mainstream boarding school. Some children stay at an ISC for three months; others stay longer.
Almost all pupils are boarders, making it easy to settle into school life and make new friendships. The boarding staff provide excellent pastoral care, enabling pupils to feel at ease quickly in their new environment.
